Happy Summer ! Yes seats are still available for our Dinner this Wednesday and yes we need you to stand with us again to keep fighting the cultural fires. Come and be inspired.
Standing Firm When the Heat Comes
Kelvin Cochran is a firefighter’s firefighter.
Raised by a single mom in Shreveport, Louisiana, Kelvin always told people the same
thing when asked what he wanted when he grew up. He didn’t want to be poor. He wanted to have a wife and children. And he wanted to be a firefighter.
After becoming one of the first African American firefighters in Shreveport and facing intense racial discrimination, Kelvin went on to become Fire Chief in Shreveport and then Fire Chief in Atlanta, Georgia. For a brief stint, President Obama gave him the highest fire official position in America when he served as the United States Fire Administrator before going back to Atlanta as Fire Chief for five more years.
And then the real heat came.
Kelvin had written a short book, in his private life, for a Bible study he led with a few paragraphs addressing God’s design for Biblical marriage between one man and one woman. And for that, the City of Atlanta fired him.
Ultimately his story ends well and Kelvin is now working for Alliance Defending Freedom, the top Christian law firm in the country that represented him. To say his story is inspirational would be an understatement.
On Wednesday, June 17th, Alaska Family Council is privileged to welcome Kelvin Cochran as our keynote speaker for our 2026 Summer Dinner at Bayshore Clubhouse in Anchorage. CLICK HERE to get your seat now and if you are in a position to become a sponsor…please join us in that capacity. We are in need of refueling for the fires and battles and opportunities ahead.
Although we have an exceptional speaker…our Dinners are not primarily about the presenters.
Although the food will be phenomenal…our Dinners are not primarily about cuisine.
Although there will be wonderful fellowship…our Dinners are not primarily about gathering together.
Each of those are organic, beautiful components of our Dinners but ultimately, to keep standing for Truth, resources are required for the small staff we have working throughout the year on your behalf. Our Dinners provide opportunities for investors to step up as ministry partners and link arms with us.
We hope you can join us.
During the evening, we’ll also be presenting former Lt. Governor and State Senator Loren Leman with the Inaugural Loren Leman Christian Statesman Award.
For decades, Loren as emulated what it means to stand strong with grace, poise and resolve in the public square.
Alaska Family Council is privileged to begin this annual recognition of those in our state who do the same. Come help us recognize Loren and help us start the tradition.
