At 1:30pm today, Monday, April 13th, the Alaska House Finance Committee will be taking public testimony on House Bill 195, a bill that will expand pharmacists’ authority to dispense abortion-inducing medications without a prior physician examination.
Alaska Family Action is asking the public to put aside some time later today to call and testify. Here are the numbers. If you live in –
Juneau – 907-586-9085
Anchorage – 907-563-9085
All other locations – 844-586-9085
Our ask is that you urge them to add the following language as an amendment to HB 195 to protect women and unborn children –
“Patient care services does not include the prescription, administration, or dispensing of an abortion-inducing drug to a patient.”
Be prepared to be on hold for awhile. If you can, we recommend calling about 1:00pm to get in line.
Please know because the Alaska State House is meeting on the floor as a body today to address the budget, there is a possibility the House Finance Committee meeting may be delayed or cancelled. It’s called “sausage making” for a reason. Schedules are always fluctuating.
If that does happen, or if you are unable to call for any other reason, please CLICK HERE to send one email to reach each member of the House Finance Committee. Again…urge them to adopt the following amendment language –
“Patient care services does not include the prescription, administration, or dispensing of an abortion-inducing drug to a patient.”
As reported by The Alaska Story, state data shows medication abortions have grown steadily in Alaska in recent years, becoming the majority of in-state procedures. In 2025, fully 60% or 742 out of 1,220 abortions reported were done chemically. That number does not include chemical abortions occurring when women mail order the pill.
As we’ve reported before, this bill comes on the heels of a critical study using insurance data that reveals more than 1 in 10 women who take the abortion pill experience serious complications including hemorrhaging, infection, and sepsis—a statistic significantly higher than what the FDA has disclosed to the public.
Please take a few minutes to let the House Finance Committee know that women deserve better. Urge them to amend this legislation as shown above to protect women and stop the expansion of abortion by mail in Alaska.
