Govt Overreach & Our Shared Responsibility

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas surrounded by loved ones. As you prepare to usher in 2022, please remain mindful of our shared responsibility to build an Alaska where God is honored, life is respected, families flourish and liberty reigns.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer referred to that as “this worldliness of our Christianity!” while Chuck Colson called it the “cultural mandate” of Matt 28 to “teach them to observe all that I have commanded you!”

The Biden Administration continues to provide ample opportunities for Christ-followers to engage:

Government-imposed vaccine mandates have become one of the greatest threats to those liberties over the past several months. (Please note AFC is supportive of ethical vaccines for all, mandates for none.) Thankfully, the U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments on January 7th challenging Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for companies that employ over 100 people and for healthcare workers at companies that benefit from Medicaid and Medicare funding.

These cases will ultimately decide whether or not the federal government has power over your bodily autonomy and can force employers to require vaccinations.

If the executive branch is allowed to usurp the power of the legislative branch to make laws, two of the three powers conferred by our Constitution would be in the same hands,” wrote U.S. District Court Judge Terry Doughty. “If human nature and history teach anything, it is that civil liberties face grave risks when governments proclaim indefinite states of emergency.

Doughty is absolutely right. We are in grave danger of tyrannical rule if we allow the federal government permanent emergency, executive powers.

Save Women’s Sports

Some are trying to defend the validity of biological men competing in women’s sports following testosterone suppression treatment, claiming that levels the playing field, but the science says otherwise. Even if the muscular advantage that males boast could be eliminated, we are in danger of reducing “the definition of female human being to having a certain level of testosterone in your body for a certain amount of time,” therefore ignoring the science of genetics, which tells us that the sexes are separated by far more than just hormones.

Thankfully, athletes and sports officials are speaking against this injustice. Recently, a USA Swimming official resigned in protest of swimmer Lia Thomas, a biological male who has dominated his female opponents at the University of Pennsylvania. Cynthia Millen “has officiated at USA Swimming events for 30 years, but she hung up her whistle last week in protest over Penn transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, and she hopes others will follow her lead,” according to the Daily Wire.

This is why Alaska Family Council will be working again with Senator Shelly Hughes this next legislative session on her bill to fight for fairness in women’s sports. We are committed to work tirelessly to ensure equal opportunities for all athletes.

Kudos To Gov Dunleavy and AG Taylor

Alaska Family Council applauds Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy and Attorney General Treg Taylor for continuing to stand up for medical choice by joining Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry on another lawsuit backed by multiple states against Biden’s mandates.

Alaska and 23 other states filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Louisiana to block implementation of a COVID-19 vaccine and masking mandate at Head Start and Early Head Start centers across the country. This federal mandate would require Head Start employees, volunteers and any contractors who directly work with children to be vaccinated for COVID-19. It would also require masks for all, including children as young as 2. CLICK HERE for more info from the State of AK Dept of Law on continuing efforts to push back on vaccine mandates.

Like all of his other unlawful attempts to impose medical decisions on Americans, Biden’s overreaching orders to mask two-year-olds and force vaccinate teachers in our underserved communities will cost jobs and impede child development,” said Louisiana AG Landry. “If enacted, Biden’s authoritarianism will cut funding, programs, and childcare that working families, single mothers, and elderly raising grandchildren rely on desperately.

The success of this lawsuit is paramount, as healthy child development is at stake. Please pray for its success and for more leaders to be bold enough to fight back against government overreach.

Remember too that your year-end generosity will go directly toward our 2022 efforts to amplify your voice, protect your civil liberties, and promote faith, family, and freedom here in the Great Land.
