Alaska Family Council is recommending two actions regarding Governor Dunleavy. Both can be done in one email at the bottom of this message.
School Choice is about to Explode !
As reported HERE in the Alaska Watchman and in other places, Governor Dunleavy joined dozens of his counterparts across the country recently in opting Alaska in to the newly-created Federal Education Freedom Tax Credit program.
This game-changing component of President trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” takes effect in January 2027 and creates a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for Alaskans who donate to qualified Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) – up to $1,700 per year for individual contributions and $3,400 per couple.
It’s estimated that 83% of all students will be eligible for the scholarships. They simply need to be eligible to enroll in a public elementary or secondary school and are a member of a household that made less than 300% of the area median gross income the prior year.
To be clear, this is not going to cost taxpayers a penny and will likely generate an enormous amount of funds for opening up school choice.
As an example, let’s say you owe the Feds $25K in income tax. If you and your spouse choose to take advantage of the dollar-for-dollar tax credit program, you would now owe the Feds $21,600. The $3,400 would go to a qualified SGO that is required to use their collected funds toward scholarships to students in private schools, of any variety, including faith-based schools.

Alaska Family Council, a longstanding advocate of school choice, shares sentiments percolating across the country that this is a watershed moment for changing the direction of our country. Public schools, while continuing to produce dismal results on reading, writing and arithmetics, are doubling down on indoctrinating students on the LGBTQIA+ agenda, DEI and CRT and are now even teaching kids how and why to fight against Federal agents charged with protecting our borders.
As Governor Dunleavy pointed out, “Opting into the Educational Choice for Children Act creates another opportunity for families and students to reap the benefits of school choice – something more and more Alaskans are choosing, all while having no negative impact on the state budget – and allowing an equivalent tax deduction to those who choose to support education through their donations.”
Alaska Family Council is truly thankful for the Governor’s leadership in the area of Education Freedom. Investing in our state’s children, not just throwing money at a broken system, should always be our highest priority. This new federal scholarship program will give even more students educational options and opportunities for success.
Another Medical Group Shouts Out Opposition To Gender Denying Mutilation Procedures on Minors
“People don’t often see the light until they feel the heat.”
In another arena directly related to Governor Dunleavy, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) just became the first major medical organization to officially oppose “gender affirming care” surgeries for minors, falling in line with numerous studies that have demonstrated the manifold harms of such procedures. The American Medical Association followed suit…at least to a point.

As a public policy group that’s been working on this issue for years, Alaska Family Council applauds these constant flow of decisions from medical groups that have skin in the game, no pun intended, but we echo what was written in Sewards Folly recently that said…
“These medical organizations only changed their minds about transgender treatments for kids because a former patient sued a doctor for malpractice and won. Last Monday, a 22-year-old woman named Fox Varian won a $2 million malpractice settlement from two doctors in New York. Psychologist Kenneth Einhorn and surgeon Simon Chin recommended that Fox Varian receive the life-altering double mastectomy surgery when she was just 16-years-old. Varian later detransitioned and then sued the doctors for what was done to her. This decision was the first example of a detransitioner malpractice lawsuit in the nation to go to trial and win.
The day after the malpractice award was made, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons made a change in their previous position and recommended that any transgender medical treatments should wait until the patient reaches adulthood. The day after that, the American Medical Association (AMA) made the same recommendation. This is a big deal. Both of these are large professional medical organizations. The AMA is the largest medical association representing physicians in this country, and up until this Wednesday, both organizations had been staunch supporters of so-called gender affirming medical treatments.”
Here in the Great Land, Alaska Family Council has been at the tip of the spear in the medical arena for two years fighting to ensure minors are not experimented on with dangerous procedures that cause lifelong complications. Despite efforts by Alaska State House member Jamie Allard to pass legislation holding practitioners accountable, the Democrat-led chamber, given its’ power by the likes of Republicans Chuck Kopp and Louise Stutes, has sat on its’ hands.
Encouragingly, the Alaska State Medical Board has voted unanimously two times to address this matter. Once in March of 2025 recommending that Alaska State Legislature pass legislation to protect minors from gender-denying care. And again, in August of 2025 to propose actual regulatory language to the Department of Law. This issue now waits for Governor Dunleavy to ask the Attorney General to release those regulations, after they are modified as needed, back to the Alaska State Medical Board where there will be public comments before a final vote.
The tide is turning. States are passing protective laws. Courts are ruling in our favor. The Trump administration is cutting funding. But the fight is far from over. Too many children are still at risk. We cannot let up.
Now for your part.

1) THANK him for opting in to the Educational Choice for Children Act
2) ENCOURAGE him to have the Department of Law release the regulations so that the Alaska State Medical Board can do their job and hold practitioners accountable for mutilating minors.
